The Human Resource Information Professional (HRIP) certification exam is designed to assess the knowledge and competencies of professionals in the HR technology field. Passing the exam indicates a demonstrated comprehensive understanding and proficiency of the defined body of knowledge in HR information management. This course is designed to help candidates review for the HRIP certification exam. It is not intended to replace professional experience or other sources of achieving professional competence. The key topics and terminology in each of the four (4) main knowledge areas will be covered.
The four (4) main knowledge areas measured by the examination:
- Technology Strategy and Solution Assessment
This topic area focuses on determining business needs when creating strategic plans for the design and deployment of Human Resource technology and service delivery models for the enterprise.
- HR Technology and Business Processes
This topic area focuses on the technologies and HR processes that support HR service delivery, and the use and advantages of technology and systems throughout the HR function.
- Systems Selections, Implementations and Upgrades
This topic area focuses on systems selection, implementation and upgrade methodologies and best practices to keep HR systems plans on track and improve chances for success.
- HR Systems Operations
This topic area focuses on the ongoing processes involved in HR systems management, maintenance and operational considerations.

Who Gains the Most from Participating in this Series?
The HR Professional with 3-5 years experience in HR Technology who is considering taking the certification examination, but unsure if they have the breadth of knowledge needed to pass the HRIP Certification Examination. The HR Professional with 5 or more years of experience in HR Technology who is considering taking the certification examination, and is looking to refresh their knowledge on one or more areas tested.

Nancy Schmidt, CMA, HRIP, SPHR, is a strategic executive leader with a diverse background in accounting, finance, systems, and human resources. Her career long passion has been focused on integrating people, process, and technology so people have opportunities for growth, processes are efficient, and the investment in technology is leveraged. Her management expertise spans a full range of operational functions and she has proven successes in a variety of service industries. Her unique background makes her a well-rounded business leader who is equipped to drive continuous improvement and support strategic initiatives.
Nancy has more than 30 years’ business experience starting in accounting and finance positions where she quickly rose to controller/CFO levels. As her career progressed, she took on executive level roles that encompassed more business operations areas, including HR, IT, risk management, facilities, and project management. Her diverse background includes expertise in financial and managerial accounting, ERP and HRIS system implementations/enhancements, data analysis and reporting, company operations, all aspects of Human Resources and payroll, compensation and benefits administration, and employee training/leadership development.
Nancy has a Master’s of Science degree in Management and Organizational Behavior with an emphasis in Total Quality Management from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, WI. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Business Administration with double majors in accounting and finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a Certified Management Accountant (recertified in 2018), plus she holds dual HR certifications as a Human Resources Information Professional (recertified in 2016) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (recertified in 2017).
Nancy is currently a Senior Consultant for Robert Half Management Resources. Her background also includes 10 years’ experience as an adjunct faculty member for a local college, teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses. The most recent courses she taught were a graduate level course on HR Strategy and undergraduate courses on Compensation and Benefits Administration, and Accounting Information Systems. She has been a speaker at multiple conferences discussing best practices around HRIS enhancements, internal controls, and the changing role for HR Business Partners.
